Woman of the Day 2015 #6

Having fought courageously for human rights and democracy, Aung San Suu Kyi is the world’s only Nobel Peace Prize recipient who is currently imprisoned by the country’s military dictatorship. She is the leader of the National League for Democracy in Burma. Advocating nonviolent resistance in the tradition of Mohandas Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Aung San Suu Kyi is a living symbol of peaceful demonstration and civil disobedience in her country, as Gandhi was in India and Dr. King in the United States. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991.
